Dissemination Strategy
The overarching goal of the proposed dissemination plan is to embed knowledge generated by the SJS Survey into as wide an audience as possible.
To that end, in 2011-2013, the SJS team plans to launch an extensive dissemination strategy to share the results of this study with communities of color, LGBT and progressive leadership organizations, and media and academic audiences, among others. The proposed dissemination strategy includes:
- Video Series: Centerpiece of a Multiplatform Social Media Campaign - A central component of the SJS social media campaign will be a series of digital videos, which together, will tell the mosaic of stories about the diversity of LGBT people of color.
- The centerpiece video will be approximately 20 minutes in length and feature LGBT people of color whose personal stories briefly illustrate some of the key findings and themes explored in the survey itself (e.g., religiosity, the importance of physical space across racial/ethnic groups, concerns about aging among older LGBT populations, and issues of parenting and adoption among lesbians and gay men). Again, most important, themes will center around stories appropriate for films/videos. Then, individual videos (approximately 10 minutes each) will explore each theme, and each story, in depth.

- Social Media Outreach - During the two years of the dissemination phase, the team expects to post frequent statistics and updates from the data via the SJS Twitter and Facebook feeds.
- High-Impact Academic & Policy Dissemination - Within the academy, the SJS team will deliver conference presentations, develop new courses, and author peer-reviewed articles in high-impact journals emphasizing the experiences of the studies' participants. In addition, we intend to publish a series of peer-reviewed articles documenting the various methodologies employed in this project. In this way, the SJS Initiative will inform other researchers, activists and policy-makers interested in documenting and gathering data on LGBT populations, populations of color, and the intersection of the two.
